Microsoft Windows Applications
- VB.NET (VB.Net wiki) - The current Object Oriented programming language from Microsoft to develop forms applications.
- Microsoft Access (MS Access wiki) - Small non-critical applications.
- Crystal Reports (Crystal Reports wiki) - Used for reporting with VB6 and .NET.
Databases
- Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL wiki) - Usually used in conjunction with Windows forms development projects owing to its good integration with .NET and support for triggers, stored procedures, user defined functions and replication.
- MySQL (MySQL wiki) - Usually used in conjunction with web applications as it is platform independent, free and open source.
- Oracle (Oracle wiki) - A database generally used in larger projects with high levels of concurrent usage and with Java-based projects.
Web Applications
- PHP (PHP wiki) - A commonly used object oriented scripting language used for web applications or standard websites. PHP is also platform independent.
- JavaScript (JavaScript wiki) - This is a universally used language for developing interactive websites and web based applications.
- Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE wiki) - is a platform for building distributed enterprise applications. An extension to the standard Java programming language framework, this language is suitable for multi-tier web applications. Platform independent.
- Ruby (Ruby wiki) - With the addition of the Ruby on Rails) frame work, Ruby is an extremely efficient language for developing web applications. Platform independent.
- XSLT and XSL-FO (XSLT wiki, XSLT wiki) - Used primarily as a reporting tool. This allows for separation of report contents and style. Reports can be produced in a number of formats including the portable document format (.pdf).
